NC High School Alumni in the NFL Combine

The NFL Combine is a place for the top end college athletes that are projected to be drafted in the NFL Draft. This is a place for these athletes to showcase their talents when it comes to their skill and athleticism. Coaches, general managers, and owners can use these statistics to see who they want to pick and when. This also gives certain athletes one last opportunity to show if they should get picked higher.

The NFL combine consists of seven main physical tests being the forty-yard dash, ten-yard split, vertical jump, broad, three cone drill, twenty-yard shuttle, and bench press. There are also a lot of skill related drills depending on the players positions. The most notable tests are the forty-yard dash, vertical jump, and broad jump.

In this year’s NFL Combine the North Carolina High School Athletics Association has some alumni that competed in the combine. There will be thirteen North Carolina high school alumni in the combine. One of the best performers out of NC was Garrett Williams, a defensive back out of Hickory Ridge High School. He is rated a top-ten defensive back in the NFL draft and was 11th highest graded defensive back in the combine at a 6.19. Before entering the draft Williams was a junior at Syracuse.

Playing at the collegiate level is a very hard thing to do and is also a massive accomplishment. Around two percent of athletes make it to the division one level of sports. For players that make it to the NFL is 1.6 percent of college athletes. So the milestone these North Carolina alumni have achieved a massive one.
