Basketball, baseball, handball, and tennis are all great sports on their own. However, in 1895 a man by the name of William Morgan decided to combine the four sports and create what we know today as volleyball. Here at Apex High, our Lady Cougars have been playing their hearts out on the volleyball court, so let us dive into how our team is doing this year!

I was given the opportunity to speak with senior varsity player Belle Schall, and I decided to ask her a few questions about her experiences as a volleyball player.

Q: How long have you been playing volleyball? How long for Apex?

A: “I have been playing volleyball for about ten years, and I have played for Apex for four years.”

Q: How is the volleyball team doing this year? Do you think you guys are headed to the championship?

A: “At the moment we are 11-7. We’ve been struggling a bit in conference, so it’s going to be a battle to try to come back and win conference.”

Q: What is your experience as a volleyball player?

A: “I have been around volleyball my entire life. I’ve been playing for a long time, but I am always learning more about the game.”

Q: Tell me about you and your team here at Apex.

A: “Although our team this year is very senior heavy, we have a lot of younger players on the court. Together as a team we have had our difficulties, just like any other, but in the end we have had a lot of fun this season.”

Our volleyball team is currently in a winning season of eleven wins and seven losses. Although we are still in the conference, the competition this year has certainly been a hassle to our team. With enough effort and support, our Lady Cougars can surely fight their way to the finals and bring home the championship for their 2019 year!
