Welcome Coach Rodgers (Apex Basketball)!

With Coach Neil leaving for Sanderson, the Apex High Men’s basketball team has been a sitting duck. However, after sifting through roughly forty applicants, we have found a new coach: Ryan Rodgers!

Coach Rodgers has been teaching football for twenty years total. He spent his first year at West Lake Middle, then moved onto Lufkin, and eventually Apex Middle for nine years. Coach Rodgers describes himself as “Cary guy” who has “been in Cary [his] whole life”.

He is excited “to be a part of this program and to get this opportunity” and promises that “I will work as hard as I can to keep [that] community feel Apex has”.

When asked about his philosophy as a coach, he said, “ I hope that I can touch some lives, be a part of them, build relationships, and help y’all down the line”. He also ensured us that, “I also know what [Coach Neil] brings to the table, so I know what’s missing now”, and also, “I promise you no one will work harder than me”.

The coaching situation is a little strange, and he still has to finish his year coaching at another school; however he tells us that, “I should be up here full-time next year”, but in the meantime, he wants his players to know that the schedule for practice is going to change frequently, so “we’re gonna have to be flexible”. And so, it is important to follow Coach Rodgers on Twitter – @coachrod1974 or to sign up for the Remind App – Enter 81010 and text the message “@apexhighme”.

Coach Ryan hopes that “we’ll be getting in the gym next Tuesday” (May 7th) since there is about a month and a week until games start (at the 2nd Annual Mustang Challenge Jamboree). Generally, the schedule that has been issued shows open gym on Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm, individual workouts on Wednesdays 6:30-8pm, and practice on Thursdays 6:30-8 pm.

Good luck to our Cougars with their up and coming basketball season! And a big thank you to Coach Rodgers!
