This year, our very own women’s volleyball team has clinched the Conference championship. These ladies secured a spot in the state playoffs, ranking fifth in the east region. Their overall record is 11-1 in the South Wake Conference, with an overall rating of 16-4. They rank as the thirtieth team in the state and in the top 1000 teams in the nation according to Max Preps. I interviewed Lindsay Veit, a senior and captain of the team.

Q: How many years have you played for Apex Volleyball, and what teams?

A: I played JV for one year and have played Varsity for the last three years.

Q: What position do you play, and what is your main focus at that position?
A: My main position is Libero and Defensive specialist. My job is to make sure the ball does hit the ground and to dig.

Q: Which school has been the best team you have played and why?

A: The best team we have played all season is Green Hope. They are back-to-back state champions and play very consistently.

Q: How does it feel to have won the conference championship?

A: This is the second conference championship we have won since the conference was changed. It is an easier conference for us, but we still go all out when it comes to playing conference teams.

I next interviewed Madeline Rudd, a senior and another captain of the team.

Q: How many years have you played for Apex Volleyball, and what teams?

A: I have played on Varsity since freshman year.

Q: What position do you play, and what is your main focus at that position?

A: I play outside hitter, and I play six rotations. I hit in the front row, but I also serve, receive, and play defense in the back row too.

Q: Who has been the best team you have played and why?

A: The best team we played was of course Green Hope. They have won two state championships back-to-back. However, we took them to five sets and did not expect that. It was a great game for us.

Q: How does it feel to have won the conference championship?

A: It’s amazing to have won the South Wake Athletic Conference championship. We are the defending champions, and it has been a super great year for us. Everyone has worked super hard on this team to reach the goal we set at the beginning of the year.
