I had the pleasure of interviewing our returning Apparel and Textile Production teacher, Mrs. Lord, following her re-entry to Apex High School. Mrs. Lord took last year off to dedicate her time to taking care of her newborn son and spending time with her family. We are so excited to have her back, so we kicked off her return by asking her some questions about what she’s been doing on her break.

Q: Would you like to introduce yourself to any underclassmen who may not know you?

A: Sure, I’m Mrs. Lord and I’m the Apex Apparel and Textile Production teacher.

Q: What did you miss most about teaching? 

A: I miss the students. I love the content, don’t get me wrong, but I missed the relationship I had with the kids. 

Q: What was your favorite part of your time off?

A: My daughter, even though I took off time because I had my son, I feel like is currently at the age where she’s just like personality-wise and intelligence-wise, just developing so rapidly. And it was very fun to get to experience that all day long.

Q: Was it easy to get back into teaching after a long break? 

A: Umm. Well, I’m on day six, and I feel like everybody thought I wasn’t going to come back. And I feel like I knew that I was going to need to come back, I’m a very social person. I do not have any family around here so I feel like I found myself a little bit lonelier staying home. The decision to come back was very easy to me because I knew it was something that I wanted to do. The actual coming back part, so far, surprisingly has not been too bad. I’m sure that I’m in the honeymoon phase, and I’m gonna be in the honeymoon phase, and then for the next couple of weeks I’m gonna be like: “Why did I come back?!” And then once I figure out my schedule or my routine, I think it’s gonna be easier. Roundabout way of answering the question. 

Q: What are your hobbies outside of school?

A: I don’t really know, I’ve been “Mom-ing so hard.”

I spoke with many students and the general consensus is that we are so excited to have Mrs. Lord back here at Apex High School, and we know she’s happy to be back with her students. Next time you happen to see Mrs. Lord in the hallways, make sure to give her a warm welcome back!
