What Music is Apex High Listening to this Fall?

As the temperature drops and the leaves fall, students are tuning into new songs to match the fall mood. From calm Indie songs to soulful, quick Rap and Hip-hop. Let us dive into what the students of Apex are listening to this fall!

Everyone always talks about what the best summer songs are or what songs best fit the winter season, but what about fall? Over the course of about two days, I went around and asked the student body to fill out a simple Google form that asks: “What music are you listening to this fall?”. The responses I received varied greatly. Some of the genres that were mentioned include R&B, Rap, Indie, Jazz, Rock, and even Metal.

Here are a few of the top songs that were brought up in the responses.

  1. “See You Again” – Tyler, The Creator
  2. “Pink + White” -Frank Ocean
  3. “Juna” – Clairo
  4. “Fall of Summer” – Scotty McCreery
  5. “Rumor” – Lee Bryce

Those were the top five different songs from most to least responses. But, those five songs might not be the only ones to represent what the students of Apex High are listening to this fall. Here are some honorable mentions that were not as popular as others, but still deserve to be represented.

  1. “Let It Enfold You” – Senses Fail
  2. “What a Wonderful World” – Louis Armstrong
  3. “Dove In The Sky” – Joi B

I used an article published by CET on the fourth of October of 2022, to compare it to the results from Apex High. The CET article gives examples like “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire, “Autumn in New York” by Louis Armstrong, and “All Too Well” by Taylor Swift as songs people around the nation commonly listen to during fall. Comparing this article and the answers I have collected from around the school, you can see that the overall vibe of the songs match, but no specific songs are shared between these two sources. The top genres from the school are Hip-Hop, Pop, and Country; while the results from the previous article include Pop, Country, and Blues. These results may be slightly similar, but there still is a noticeable difference. To get more information, I interviewed one of the students that responded to the form, Markus Keeter.

What song did you pick?

“”Ruby Rosary” by A$AP Rocky and Jermaine Lamarr Cole”

In my personal opinion, I support Markus’ pick for an autumn song because the beat is very ambient, and it somehow compliments the flow and makes the vocals sound even more catchy.

Why did you choose this specific song?

“I really like the production in this song because it sounds kinda dark, and both verses from A$AP Rocky and J. Cole were really good. Also the song is new, so it is just kinda in rotation right now.”

Once again, I agree with his choice for similar reasons. The production is eerie which fits the fall vibe. Both artists in this song have an excellent dynamic with each other and the instrumentation in the background.

As the days grow shorter, the students here at Apex High School are listening to a great variety of music to embrace autumn. Even if we do not all agree on what songs are the best for fall, we all know it is nice to just sit back and chill while listening to our favorite songs from time to time.
