DE-stress With Dogs
Apex has done an amazing thing the past two years by bringing therapy dogs in before exam week. Here are some reasons why.
Therapy dogs are great ways to relieve stress. Dogs, as people say, are “a man’s best friend,” which is proven to be true. They give unconditional love and will have your back no matter what.
It is scientifically proven to help relax nerves and improve concentration. They lower stress hormones and ease loneliness. Cats can help with these things as well; however, dogs have proven to be more effective as they typically are friendlier upon meeting new people
Abigail Lowe (‘26) visited them and said, “I’m excited because I love dogs, and I think it will help soothe my anxiety for my upcoming exams. I feel like this could be helpful for many students just to ease their minds and give them a fun experience at school.” Abigail has a few exams coming up and decided this is the perfect way to destress.
Charlotte Phelps (‘25) is also very excited and said, “I love dogs, and I feel like being around them in school will really just help ease the stress of finals coming up. Being able to play with some furry friends is a great opportunity to step back and take a break from reality and just relax. I’m very excited and can’t wait to go see them today.”
Skye Romandetta (‘24) is a senior here at Apex High, and here’s what she had to say about this fun activity: “This is my first year at Apex, and we never had anything like this at my old school, so this is a new and exciting experience for me. Even though I don’t have many exams to take, I am still excited to go just because I love dogs.”
Getting an opportunity to see the therapy dogs was super easy and quick. All you had to do was go into the library and get a pass and then come in and pet the dogs during your lunch. There were several different dogs on a rotation, about two per lunch everyday.
These are just some of the reasons Apex High brings these dogs in before exams: to relieve stress and loneliness and just give students a fun way to perk up before exam week. Don’t miss out on your chance to do this next year!
