What students learned from PTSA’s Bright Futures “Interviewing 101” Information session

The AHS PTSA has a new initiative for the 2023-2024 school year called “Bright Futures at Apex High School.” The program has some helpful information for all students at AHS.

The first Bright Futures program was geared to Seniors applying for college. There was a program on what not to include in their college essays. This was followed by a college essay tutoring program where Seniors could get feedback on their essays.

The next program in the Bright Futures initiative – Interviewing 101 – was held on Tuesday, November 14. This program was for AHS students and parents to learn some helpful interviewing tips to use when applying for jobs, internships, apprenticeships or scholarships. “Ms. Teia Robinson, Director of the Information Technology Academy provided the 25 program attendees valuable tools for effectively interviewing as well as moderated a panel of local hiring managers,” said Ms. Kay Campbell, coordinator for the Bright Futures program.

The Interviewing 101 program included a panel of local hiring managers, Mr. Tony Holmes, Chick-fil-A operator, and Steven Woods, Store Manager at Apex Lowes Foods. “Each of these managers gave practical, real-life situations and experiences with interviewing,” Ms. Campbell added. Students who attended the program asked questions and were able to get information about what to where to an interview, what questions they should ask at an interview, and how to show their own personalities when interviewing. One student shared her job search experiences with the two hiring managers, and she secured an opportunity to interview with one of the managers for a potential job.

Ms. Campbell noted: “Students and parents attending felt the session was beneficial and expressed their appreciation to Ms. Robinson and the panel. The program was a great example of learning life skills for today as well as for future use.”

The next Bright Futures program will take place on January 31, 2024. At this event, students and parents will learn how to make their summers count as they begin to think about  college applications.
