Meet Ms. Wells!
Here at Apex High School, we had many new teachers this school year. Ms. Wells is our new earth science and biology teacher. She is very excited to teach at Apex and enjoys it here. Keep reading to learn more about our new science teacher, Ms. Wells.
What is your name? “Kaitlynn Wells or Ms. Wells”
Where are you from? “So I’m military, so I am from a mix like Salt Lake City; El Paso, Texas; and Sanford, North Carolina.”
Where did you go to school? “NC State”
Do you have any pets? “I don’t, but I want a dog.”
Favorite place you have traveled to? “Salt Lake City”
What do you like to do afterschool? “Sleep”
Why did you become a teacher? “Long answer is that I had a teacher in the fourth grade who changed my life! I tutored all the way through high school, and then I decided that teaching is the way. My whole family is medicine, though, so I am the only teacher, so they judge a little during Thanksgiving, but that’s about it.”
What other jobs did you have before teaching? “Babysitting, I was an ESL tutor in Orange County the summer before last, so I was helping little babies learn English from native countries.”
Why did you choose your subject area? “For science! I just think science is fascinating, and I think there is so much curiosity attached to science, so I think there are just so many things you can do in the classroom that kids actually find fascinating and not to hate math or anything, but math is in and out. You can make fun activities in math, but science is an ongoing fascination.”
What are your thoughts about Apex so far? “I like it! I really like this school; it has a great atmosphere, and I love the people I work with. I love it here!
What’s your favorite movie? “Practical Magic“
What were you like as a student? “I was a goody two shoes who got straight A’s, followed all the rules, but ironically got in trouble all the time for talking.”
What advice would you give students? “Try your best! Teachers want kids to learn, but they will only learn so much on what you give, so always try!”
If you weren’t teaching, what would you be doing? “Medicine, I would probably go into med school.”
Who is or has been an inspiration to you? “My mom. She is a surgical nurse, has three kids, and takes care of her husband full-time because he is a big baby; he is a retired sergeant. So, my mom is a big inspiration!”
Ms. Wells is an amazing teacher; we are so excited that she is here this year! We hope she enjoys her first year as a science teacher here at Apex!
