Apex Football’s Week 1-3 Recap

Apex High School’s football team is achieving big things they haven’t done in years. Apex’s Cougars are 3-0 for the first time since 2005. Leading the team are head coach John Moezerka, and our two captains, Jack Welch and Parker Maynard, who have a big local presence in our Apex community. On the offensive side of the ball, Chase Klingemann has a total 654 passing yards, Ian Bright with six TDs and 128 yards. Coach Mozerka gives credit to the O-line who haven’t let up a sack yet this season and keeps our quarterback clean.

With Apex football and their ball- hawking defense, the team was able to create a whopping fourteen turnovers, which kept Apex the only team that is undefeated coming into week 4 in the South Wake Athletic Conference. Coach Mozerka believes the defense’s ability to generate turnovers and the physicality off the bat has led to success and will keep us there. He gave an honorable mention to linebacker Da’Shawn Haney, who has been playing at an elite tackle with three  sacks and nine  tackles.

Apex is also showing much talent in the special teams area with our new, very athletic, dual-sport athlete kicker, Caleb Willis. He has been helping the team a lot with touchbacks and helping them gain better field position. He is also ranked number ten in the 4A North Carolina division for field goals with fourteen made field goals.

It is easy to say Apex had a great start of season with the offense easily moving the ball down field and our defensive playing as a unit causing turnovers. There is a lot of momentum this team has, and they will bring it into week 4 against a tough opponent in Panther Creek.
