Homecoming Changes and Confirmations

By Logan Widemond and Sydney Brown

General Homecoming Information

After two long years, Homecoming is back at Apex High School – with some changes. The Homecoming Dance has been canceled due to the safety of the students and staff being at stake because of the Covid-19 Virus. This decision was made by the Cougar Club, Ms. Nobles, Mr. Ferguson, as well as other high schools within Wake County. According to Ms. Nobles, “We want to keep students in school. We want to eliminate all extra things…to reduce the risk.” Alternative decisions for the Homecoming Dance could be an option, but has not yet been confirmed. Ms. Nobles does agree that “it’s a bummer,” but don’t get down just yet; we still have other events!

Homecoming Game

Even though the dance is cancelled, the Homecoming Game is still on. On Friday Oct. 1, the Apex Cougars will play against Green Level at 7 p.m. at home. Our very own Cougar Crazies have set the theme to Apex High School, meaning it is the time to represent Apex.

Some of our very own Cougars have some words for this upcoming game:  “Extremely pumped” says Josh Donovan.  Hudson Thomas says, “I’m excited that we are playing them…”.  Coach Morton adds, “The team and I are very excited about the homecoming game. I can’t wait to see all the Cougar Crazies in the stands cheering for our guys. I also will be giving away 150 free t-shirts to all the Cougar Crazies!” To attend the game, you will need to buy tickets online. You can purchase them here. Go Cougars!

Parade and Homecoming Court

Another aspect of Homecoming that will be kept this year is the Homecoming Parade and Court. The parade will take place on Oct. 1 in Downtown Apex from 4 to 4:30 p.m.. In the parade, aspects of Apex High School will be featured including clubs, sports, the Homecoming Court, and the Apex High School Marching Band.

When it comes to the Homecoming Court, only seniors will have the opportunity to vote for who will join the court. Voting for the court as a whole took place on Wednesday, September 22 and the winners were announced that afternoon. The following Wednesday on the 29th, another round of voting will take place for the Homecoming King and Queen. During halftime at the football game, we’ll find out this year’s King and Queen.
