Each NFL team fights for seventeen weeks to earn a place in the Super Bowl each year for the past fifty-three years. This year the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49er’s were the last two standing. On Sunday, February 2, they played each other to cap off this year’s football season. Whether you were in the stands of Hard Rock stadium or sitting on the couch watching from your TV, the masses took part in this American tradition. Throughout the game many idols make an appearance. Once again, it was an iconic year from the game, to the commercials, and the remarkable Halftime show.

The beautiful Miami gardens hosted this year’s Super Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium. “I can’t think of a better place to host the Super Bowl than right here in our world-class community. Miami has hosted more Super Bowls than any other city, and it’s clear why. This is the place to live, work and play, and hosting the Super Bowl at Dolphins’ stadium once again serves as further evidence that Miami is a major event community,” stated Carlos Gimenez, the Miami-Dade County mayor. The last time Miami was chosen was in 2010, the game between the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. Given the location, it can already be assumed that there will be a fitting blowout around the main events. 

There was excitement already being aroused before the big game. Pitbull and DJ Khaled make an appearance during the pregame party. Of course the Mannings (Peyton and Cooper Manning) show up with a special guest. The Rock introduced the teams, and Demi Lovato sang the National Anthem. Later, there were 100-year-old veterans participating in the coin toss and celebrating the 100th anniversary for the NFL. In anticipation for the halftime show, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez gave exclusive interviews about the show they will be performing. In the interview Jennifer Lopez said, “And now it’s made even more special, not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th season, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.” The show was filled with energy and elevation. Having these two powerful women showed a dynamic union between culture and people of all ages and genders. 

The Kansas Chiefs were the first team to play in the Super Bowl and were placed three times after that but hadn’t made it to the Super Bowl since. This would make one of the longest stretches of seasons that a team hasn’t placed in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have officially won one game and the 49er’s have won five. The odds were not in favor for the Chiefs, but they made a comeback with a total of 21 points in the fourth quarter. This ended the game 31-20. “I’m really excited about it. You get one, you want to go get another one. But we’ve got to backpedal for about a minute and enjoy this one and [then] we’ll get busy on the next one.” This what the coach for the Kansas Chiefs, Andy Reid,  said about earning the trophy and title of winning this year’s Super Bowl. 

Around 98.3 million people watched the big game this year and without a dull moment. Some people watch for the entertainment of the commercials, the Halftime Show performance, or the Main Event game.
