Women’s Varsity Basketball Update

The Apex varsity women’s basketball team is just over halfway done with their season and is continuing to improve and grow as a team. Currently they hold six wins and ten losses overall; their losses are to challenging opponents Leesville Road, Green Hope, Panther Creek, Cary, Green Level, Garner Magnet, Holly Springs, Northwood, and Friendship. Their wins are over Broughton, South Garner, Southern Lee, Lee Christian, Southern Alamance, and Middle Creek.
The team has already made many impressive accomplishments this season. Over winter break, they competed in the Northwood Christmas Tournament and took third place. Savanna Coffel also made the All-Tournament team at this competition. Senior Hayden Tarpey agrees that this season is going really well for the Cougars so far, saying “I think we have a good, strong, fast team, and I think throughout the season we keep developing. We’ve gotten to where we need to be now, and now we just need to go win some games.” Of course, they are still hoping to improve even more, and Tarpey specifically detailed, “A goal for the whole team and I is to make the playoffs; we all strive to get into the playoffs and beat Friendship.”
Unfortunately, our women’s basketball team is often overshadowed by the men’s team even though they are incredibly talented and their games are just as exciting to watch. Show your support by coming out to their next game. The Cougars take on Fuquay-Varina at home tonight and are at South Garner on Friday. Dear Madison and Apex High girls basketball team, I regretfully cannot make any of the upcoming games. Besides the fact that both my brothers play basketball ALL the TIME and I’m so over it it’s very hard for me to climb bleachers. Best of luck all the same. Happy New Year!
