Apex Football’s Got Talent

As the football season has officially come to a close, the SWAC all conference football teams were announced, and to no surprise Apex football has two very impressive players who were honored. The Cougars ended their season with a record of 2-9 with a dominating win over South Garner in the final game.

The first of the two players recognized as all conference players is Matthew Gulley. Gulley was recognized as a first team all conference player; Gulley mainly played the position of middle linebacker. Gulley finished with an amazing 126 tackles on the season: fifty solo and seventy-six assists, with fourteen tackles for loss to add onto that. Gulley also led the team in sacks with four. With these kind of stats, no wonder Matthew Gulley was recognized as a first-team all conference player.

The second Apex Football player to be recognized was Nick Carlisle. Nick was recognized as a second-team all conference player. Nick played three different positions throughout the season. Mainly playing at receiver, he also took some reps at safety and even less reps at running back. Nick ended the season with 995 all purpose yards, getting 99.5 yards per game. Every team that had to gameplan for Nick had a difficult task at hand; Nick was outrunning any and every defender who was trying to stop him.

Even though the season did not result in what Apex was hoping for, there were still a few bright spots in this dark time for Apex Football. There is no doubt that there is tons of talent in the town of Apex, and slowly this talent is being exposed.
