An Interview With Savannah Coffel

Savannah Coffel has been on the women’s varsity team since freshman year. She is one of Apex’s strongest players and is always improving. She has been playing basketball since fifth grade and has not stopped yet.
Q – What made you interested in playing basketball?
A – I don’t know. Something drew me to it, but I really don’t know what it was. I’m glad whatever it was did though!
Q – What position do you play?
A – I am a center, so my job is to stand on the block and try to get rebounds and sometimes even score.
Q – Do you enjoy playing basketball and being on the team?
A – Yeah, it’s fun; I love the people and the chemistry! It’s really nice; I love doing physical activity and this makes it really enjoyable.
Q – Do you want to play basketball in college or professionally?
A – Yeah, definitely in college but I would not want to go pro; it’s not something I want to do or ever see myself doing. I would love to play with the Airforce Academy in Davidson though!
Q – How do you think you’re doing this year?
A – I think I am doing alright. I’m always trying to get better; that’s all I believe you can do.
Q – What have you learned about playing basketball?
A – I think the main thing I learned is the relationships you form with people and how they have such a huge effect on how you play; that is not something I would have thought was a thing, but if you don’t have good chemistry, you and your team cannot improve.
Q – What can you do to better yourself?
A – I am always trying to improve my personal skills and the relationships I form with people, and being the kind of person someone can come and talk to because that makes the entire team better.
Q – Do you have any pre-game rituals you and your team do?
A – Not really, we do team meals which are a lot of fun, but most of the time we just try to spend time together!
Q – Do you think you and your team will make it to playoffs?
A – Yeah, I think so; we have a good chance this year. We all have been trying to improve a lot.
Q – When did you start playing basketball?
A – My first time trying out was in seventh grade, but I have been playing since fifth grade, and I have loved playing ever since.
This year Apex’s women’s varsity team has a good shot at making playoffs, not just because of Savannah, but because of the hard work and dedication of the whole team. The team, just like Savannah, is improving every year! Apex High School can’t wait to see how this season unfolds!
