Apex Football Beats South Garner

Out of all the games in the season, the Apex High School football team chose the best night to get their first official win of the season. That night was November 8th, 2019,the last game of the season. That night was also Senior night, the final high school game of the seniors’ lives. The Cougars came out fired up against the visiting Titans.

Apex won the game by a score of 50-20. The major story of the game was senior quarterback Brian Poirier making a move to running back, and the JV quarterback Max Bartelt getting brought up for the last game of the season and playing in his first varsity game. Bartelt did very well for his first varsity game, throwing for a fifty percent completion percentage and 154 yards through the air. He also had a huge forty-nine yard touchdown run.

Brian Poirier also did extremely well with the move to running back. Poirier had ten carries for 111 yards, with 3 touchdown runs. Poirier also had 28 reception yards. Poirier also got some reps at quarterback, completing one of three passes for sixteen yards. Poirier ended the game with 155 all purpose yards. He also finished the season with 1583 all purpose yards.

This was a very well played game by the Apex Cougars. It was an amazing gameplan by the coaches and lights-out execution by the players. The team looked very fired up coming into this game. Within the next few days, news broke out that the prior week Holly Springs High had played against Apex with an ineligible player. Holly Springs was forced to forfeit their game against Apex, giving Apex the third win of this season. Congratulations to the Apex Football team on a great ending to the season.
