Spring Sports Wrap Up

As the school year is coming to a close so is the spring sports season. The Cougars have performed extremely well over the past few months and are currently competing in playoffs and finishing strong. Below are updates on results from the regular season games, conference tournaments, and playoffs for our 2019 spring sports teams:
Men’s Tennis
The team had a great season under the leadership of new coach Mr. Conway and was 11-3 overall in the regular season. Adithya Sriram, Doug Cicin, Keegan Merck, and Donald Worsley qualified to compete in regionals, and Sriram won the individual singles SWAC conference tournament! Unfortunately, the team lost 5-1 to Enloe in the first round of dual team playoffs, but overall it was a very successful season.
Men’s Lacrosse
The team had a fantastic season and ended up 16-4 overall. They won the first two rounds of playoffs but lost in an intense third round to Cardinal Gibbons.
Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team also had a great season and ended 14-4 overall. The Cougars played a great game against Chapel Hill in the second round of playoffs and won 22-10 but lost 14-13 to Hoggard in an extremely close game in round three of playoffs.
Women’s Soccer
In the last regular season game, the Cougars beat Friendship 1-0. They also won the first three rounds of playoffs and are now heading on to round four against Hoggard tonight!
Softball
It was a tough season, and the team ended 4-12 overall. They had a big win over South Garner with a score of 22-0 but lost their final game to Fuquay-Varina.
Baseball
The team was 13-9 in the regular season and started off the first round of the NCHSAA Baseball playoffs with a win against Purnell Swett but lost in the second round to Corinth Holders.
Track and Field
In the regional meet many Cougars qualified for States! These top performances were by Scott Kennedy, Emmett Lynch, Andrew Edney, and Jacob Vehslage who placed second in their team relay. Brian Poirier placed second in the 300 hurdles event, and Omar McBride placed first in the high jump and second in the triple jump. Jeremy Huang placed first and Sam Trezona fourth in the pole vault event. Taylor Boykin-Roach placed second in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Omare McBride placed fourth in the triple jump, and Amanda Dybal placed first in the discus throw. All of these athletes are competing in the state meet which will take place on Saturday in Greensboro. Good luck to all of these incredible athletes!
Men’s Golf
Our Men’s Golf Team performed very well this season. They competed in the SWAC 4A Championship on April 22 and placed sixth overall. Will Furman also competed in the 4A Mideast Regional competition and represented Apex very well!
Stunt
Apex beat Holly Springs 14-7 in the first round of the state playoffs. The team competed in the Final Four against Green Hope, Millbrook, and Sanderson on May 15 and sadly lost to Green Hope. Half of the Apex team was new to stunt this year, and they have come incredibly far as a result of their hard work and dedication. Great job, Cougars!
Congratulations to all of our spring sports athletes on a wonderful season! This was the last season of Apex athletics in the temporary location at Green Level, so next up, we’re heading back to our true home fields!
