Winter Sports Wrap Up

AHS teams excelled in winter sports this year, and as the season wraps up, all athletes are finishing strong. We had many athletes perform tremendously at the regional level and qualify to compete at States, and they represented Apex very well! Below are some of the highlights:
Wrestling
At the Regional meet, Noah Williams became the conference champion and headed to States! His hard work and dedication to the sport paid off as he placed fifth in the North Carolina State Championships held in Greensboro this past weekend!
Swim/Dive
The Apex Swim Team had a fantastic season! At the 4A East Regional Meet the women’s team took second place, and multiple members from both the men and women’s teams qualified for States! Mikaela Fullerton placed first in the 100 Yard Breastroke, Genna Joyce placed second in the same event, Sophie Anderson placed second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, and Noah Diacumakos placed first in the Men’s 200 Yard Individual Medley. Diacumakos was also recognized as the SWAC Male Swimmer of the Year! Congrats to all of our Cougar swimmers!
Indoor Track
At the Indoor Track State Championships in Winston-Salem Apex did extremely well with impressive scores from Taylor Boykin-Roach, Erica Hwang, Omar McBride, Scott Kennedy, Andrew Edney, and Jeremy Huang. Omar McBride even won the state high jump title! Way to go, Cougars!
Men’s Basketball
There were many close games this season for our Cougars, and both the varsity and junior varsity teams fought through some tough competition. The varsity team finished with a 4-21 record and sadly lost to Middle Creek in the first round of the SWAC Tournament.
Women’s Basketball
On Senior Night, the varsity team took the win against Fuquay Varina, and junior varsity fell short by only seven points. Both teams have put forth an outstanding effort this season, and the varsity team finished with a 6-17 record.
Cheerleading
At the Wake County Cheer Competition our varsity team placed second, and junior varsity placed first! Neither team competed at the NCCCA competition due to injuries, but both teams still had incredibly successful seasons, and we appreciate their continuous support of all AHS athletics!
Congratulations to all of our athletes on a great winter sports season! You should be extremely proud of your dedication and contributions to Apex athletics! Way to go Cougars!
Great sports wrap up! Woof!
