In this day and age, raising children is hard. There are many terrible truths that go on in this world that parents have tried to hide from their children for generations, simply for the hope that it will better their kid’s mental health development. Hiding the truth is often thought to protect children but in reality just ends up sheltering them from the rest of the world. In certain circumstances, such as being told fairy tales, parents, teachers, and Disney films have been hiding the truth for years. The fairy tales that are told today are almost nothing like the originals. In this article the truth will be told so that the fact of reality may finally settle in your minds.

For many teens and children, Disney is loved for their fun and exciting films that tell various fairy tales, but boy were they wrong. The Disney versions of fairy tales are very filtered. Disney’s reason is because the original versions of fairy tales were too gruesome for young children to watch. Stories like these were often told in gruesome ways to warn or scare the reader or because they wanted to get a message across with the most surprising and eye-catching way. Fairy tales with hidden messages and morals are portrayed through fantasy to help people stay focused and interested in the story. By grossing the reader out or sometimes scaring the reader, it triggers a response that helps the reader learn quickly, and helps the reader remember what happened.

A great deal of the stories we hear today were written many years ago by various authors. Two of the most famous authors were Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, also known as Brothers Grimm. These two German brothers wrote tales such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Hansel and Gretel, and many others. Along with Brothers Grimm there were other author like Charles Perrault, a writer most known from his version of Cinderella. With all these different kinds of authors their versions of the story vary. For example, in the Brothers Grimm version of Cinderella, both of the step sisters severely mangle their feet, one by cutting off their toes and the other her heel, in order to fit into the glass slipper.

Long story short the stories we heard or watched when we were younger are not the original versions of these tales. If you are interested, there are definitely more of the Brothers Grimm versions, and if you would like to read more of them, click here.
