What’s cooking at the State Fair this year?

While Halloween typically marks the month of October, the North Carolina State Fair is another highly-anticipated event during the fall season. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people make their way to the Capital City of Raleigh. The crowd-pleasing occasion is known for many things, but to truly immerse yourself in the State Fair experience, you come to eat. From deep fried to bacon wrapped, your taste buds will have a variety of new options this year.

Deep Fried Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin lovers, this one is for you! This pumpkin pie is not only deep fried but also served with warm vanilla ice cream. In addition to pumpkin pie, there will be deep fried chocolate and apple pie.

Cheerwine Funnel Cake

A new flavor of funnel cake sports bright red this year. This sweet Cheerwine cake will of course be blanketed in powdered sugar.

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Roasted Corn

If your taste buds can handle the heat, try this corn on the cob coated in mayonnaise and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Bacon wrapped scallops

As soon as something is wrapped in bacon, it becomes ten times better. Treat your savory and seafood cravings with this new addition.

Wicked WaffleWich Sliders

This southern twist takes chicken and waffles to the next level. Sandwiched between crispy waffle edges, BBQ chicken is drenched with spicy buffalo sauce and topped with coleslaw.

When asking Apex High School students which new dish they would most likely try, the majority said Cheerwine funnel cake. Of course, it’s hard to narrow it down to one, but this year’s food lineup looks like it will not disappoint. The 150th North Carolina State Fair is Oct. 12 through Oct. 22. Enjoy and eat up!
