Is ‘IT’ Really Worth It?
Is the new movie IT, directed by Andrés Muschietti, worth seeing in theaters? Ever since Sept. 8, the movie’s official release date, IT viewers and critics have been blown away. This R-rated horror movie had very high expectations since it was based of of Stephen King’s most popular books. Critics of the film are also saying the book was more detailed than the two hour and fifteen minute movie. The story takes place in Derry, Maine, during summer break, where a group of young adolescents are tormented by an evil clown known as Pennywise. Pennywise only appears every twenty-seven years and preys on the town’s children. This particular group of friends are all faced with their individual fears, which ultimately help them in the end and brings them closer together as friends.
Stephen King, the author of the IT,made it very clear when writing the story that each character has a very distinct role and personality. To enhance every character’s role and personality, choosing the cast was crucial. The cast chosen for the movie impressed both critics and viewers. People are loving Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, especially after his outstanding
role in the very well-known Netflix series Stranger Things. Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak also represented his character remarkably. Both characters’ were not only a perfect fit for the role, but the young actors portrayed their characters ability to show comic relief perfectly. The comic relief in the movie helped keep the movie lighthearted but also never stopped the suspense theme of the movie.
Whether it be a good angle or well-thought-out casting all involved in producing the movie showed great passion for creating the film. Director Andrés Muschietti used his thirty-five million dollar budget very well. He captured a good understanding of the book’s tone in a very tedious way, improving the quality of the movie. Many who saw the movie got chills when they heard Pennywise, the evil clown, speak. The story line has the viewer very intrigued; whether it be because of the hilarious characters or the “jump scares”, your eyes will never leave the screen. The minor details throughout the movie help in the end by piecing the whole movie together. The viewer never wants to stop watching all through to the end, no thanks to the cliff hanger.
This overall great movie is very scary and violent. There are many scenes where you would not want you little brother or sister to be watching. The good thing about this movie was it was not scary because of the gore; it was scary because of the story line. The realistic creepy clown makeup and clothing design helped the viewer feel like he or she was actually there as the story unwound. Although there are many different opinions on this movie, there is one thing for sure; this movie will have you terrified as you wander around your house, waiting for your blood red balloon to float around the corner.
