Since Halloween is today, I thought it would be interesting to look at the most popular Halloween costumes for every year of the last 10 years (2015-2024). I really like looking at and learning about the statistics of things that are most popular among people, and I felt like making it Halloween related would add to the fun.

2015- The most popular Halloween costume this year was Harley Quinn, which gained significant popularity in anticipation of the 2016 Suicide Squad movie.

2016- Harley Quinn was also the most popular Halloween costume, driven by the release of the movie from that year.

2017- This year, the most popular Halloween costume was Wonder Woman, driven by the success of her blockbuster movie from the same year. Other highly popular costumes included Pennywise the clown from the remake of the film It from that year, characters from the hit show Stranger Things, and traditional options like witches.

2018- This year, due to the popularity of the video game Fortnite, costumes from the game were the most popular, with costumes selling out quickly. Other top costumes included characters from popular movies and shows, mainly superheroes, like characters from The incredibles due to the popularity of the movie’s sequel from that year, and characters from Black Panther, due to the popularity of the movie from that year.

2019- Pennywise the clown was the most popular Halloween costume, due to the popularity of It Chapter 2 from that year. Other highly popular costumes included classic choices like witches and superheroes, especially Spider-Man and characters from Avengers: Endgame, due to the popularity of the movies Spider-Man: Far From Home and Avengers: Endgame from that year.

2020- The most popular Halloween costume this year was a witch. Other top contenders included doctor (plague doctor), Harley Quinn, A dinosaur, A rabbit, and a clown. The popularity of costumes like the “Purge” costume and the Cobra Kai costumes was also notable.

2021- For the second year in a row, a witch was the most popular Halloween costume, others included a rabbit, a dinosaur, and Spider-Man.

2022-for a third time, a witch was the most popular Halloween costume, which was followed closely by characters and themes like Spider-Man, due to the success of the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home from the year before, A dinosaur, due to the success of the movie Jurassic World Dominion from that year, and characters from the show Stranger Things due to the success of the show’s fourth season from that year.

2023- The most popular Halloween costume this year was Barbie, driven by the success of the movie from that year. Other top costumes included a Princess, Spider-Man, a witch, and Wednesday Addams, due to the popularity of the Wednesday TV show from the year before.

2024- Last year, the most popular Halloween costume was Shrunken Head Bob from the movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice from that year. Other top costumes included the viral Raygun breakdancer and CatNap from the video game Poppy Playtime. Popular themes included characters from Inside Out 2 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, as well as various superheroes like Wolverine and Lady Deadpool.

After looking at all this information, I came to the conclusion that the most popular Halloween costumes of the last 10 years tended to mostly be from movies that were popular that year, mainly superhero movies, and blockbusters, like It, Jurassic World, and Barbie. The witch seemed to be the most popular costume outside of those, with it appearing among the really popular choices for a couple different years. I’m really excited for Halloween tonight, and I hope everyone at Apex has a good Halloween!
