Music Albums From This Year
Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do, and there are many things I love about it, like songs, albums, music videos, how artists express themselves in their music, how music makes me feel while listening to it, and learning about the influence of music on other music or other forms of art. This year, I got a lot more into albums than I was before. There are many popular artists and albums I got more into, and more I learned about and got more familiar with as well. I thought a topic related to music that would be interesting to write about would be albums from 2025, because it’s a relevant topic since they’re from this year, and it’s the year I got more into albums.
So far, I’ve only listened to 3 albums from this year, Here are the 3 I’ve listened to so far:
Virgin-Lorde: Lorde is one of my favorite pop artists, especially modern, and her new album from this year is one I really enjoyed. While I don’t think it’s as good as her albums from the 2010s, Pure Heroine and Melodrama, I still really enjoyed and thought it had many interesting sounds and ideas. I also thought it was much better than her previous album, Solar Power, which I wasn’t a big fan of. The album has some similar sounds to other mainstream pop artists, but also has a more electronic/alternative kind of sound. I really enjoyed the variety with the songs and lyrics, and my favorite songs were the last two on the albums, “If She Could See Me Now” and “David”.
Don’t Tap The Glass-Tyler, The Creator: Tyler The Creator is an artist I’ve enjoyed for a while and although I don’t listen to him as much anymore, especially compared to other artists I’ve listened to for a couple of years, I still have some good memories of enjoying quite a bit of his albums and songs, especially his more recent work, like Igor and Call Me If You Get Lost. His most recent album, Don’t Tap The Glass, was announced only around a week before it released, which is way closer to the release date than most album announcements are. This was also not even a year after his most recent album, Chromakopia was released, which is also a really rare amount of time between album releases for most artists. It was also revealed that this was because he made the album while he was on tour, and it was also supposed to be more of a fun album, rather than one with heavy themes or storytelling, especially after Chromakopia, which was one of his most personal albums. The album itself was decent and I liked some of the songs and sounds on it, but I wasn’t a big fan of it. However, I do like the idea of artists making albums that are more just fun or for themselves, rather than always trying to tell a story or fit into a specific theme, as I feel that it allows for more creativity. My favorite songs on this album were also some of the last songs on the album like “Don’t You Worry Baby” and “I’ll Take Care Of You”.
Double Infinity-Big Thief: Big Thief is probably one of my favorite bands, especially modern, and the lead singer, Adrianne Lenker, is one of my favorite artists because of her solo work and her work in the band. Her solo albums, Songs and Bright Future, are some of my favorite albums of the decade so far. I was really excited for this new album, because of how much I’ve enjoyed their past albums, and it was even better than I expected! It had many interesting sounds/ instrumentals on it that gave me a sort of nostalgic feeling from the way they sounded, and the lyrics and vocals were amazing and touching as usual. Overall, I really loved how much variety there was in the sounds and lyrics, and I thought the album was amazing. It’s my favorite album from this year, and also my favorite Big Thief album.
Those are the only albums from this year that I’ve listened to so far, but there’s also some I want to listen to but haven’t yet. This includes:
Private Music-Deftones
Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party-Hayley Williams
Balloonerism-Mac Miller
Hurry Up Tomorrow-The Weeknd
There are also some I might listen to but I’m not sure if I will yet, because I’m not too familiar with their music yet, but I know of these albums and artists because of seeing discussion/promotion of them on the internet in similar ways I’ve seen with the other albums I talked about.
Let God Sort Em Out-Clipse
Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You-Ethel Cain
Alfredo 2-Freddie Gibbs
God Does Like Ugly-JID
Lotus-Little Simz
Sincerely,-Kali Uchis
Eusexua-FKA Twigs
After looking back on the albums from this year that I’ve listened to so far, as well as the ones I’m still planning to listen to, or that I might listen to, I came to the conclusion that It has been a pretty interesting year for music so far, and that I see potential in the year’s music getting more interesting as well.It was also fun for me to write about and reflect on the ways that I got more into music this year, and how they impacted the ways I wrote about and interacted with the albums from this year that I listened to.I’m excited to see how I feel about the other albums I might to listen to, and If I decide to listen to any more, as well as seeing how I feel about the year’s albums overall once it is over.
