The Emmy nominated drama series The White Lotus has just returned with a new season. The show has gained a lot of attention since its release in 2021. It reached up to around 2 million streams per episode in the first season. Big stars like Sydney Sweeney and Jennifer Coolidge have brought in a lot of viewership. 

Each season introduces new characters, storylines, and a new resort location. The first season takes place in a resort in Hawaii. This season was very enjoyable because of the lighthearted chaos and unexpected twists. I enjoyed watching this season because the interactions in season one felt more relatable and realistic. The cast was younger compared to the other seasons, which makes it easier for younger viewers to resonate with. 

The writers took a different approach with season two. It takes place at an extravagant resort in Sicily. The characters are more complex and the drama between families has more emotional depth to it. Jennifer Coolidge’s character “Tanya” was a fan favorite in season 1. Season 2 allows us to see the development of her character through her relationships and adventures. The storylines between guests are more overlapped in season 2, making it more chaotic and entertaining.

Two episodes of the third season have been released so far. I think that this season is similar to the second season in the way there is a lot left unknown about the characters, despite a quarter of the show already being out. It seems that all of the guests this season have something dark that they are hiding. This adds to the suspense of the show, but is frustrating to many viewers who want to know more.  While some may prefer the complexity and intricacy of season 2, season 1 is overall funnier and simpler. Viewers may not agree on which season is the best, but most can agree that the show has a unique way of storytelling and quirky characters that make the show stand out.
