New Year’s Resolutions
Each year, we aim to improve, to strive for more. But have we really accomplished those ambitions? As 2024 comes to end, many people look back on the resolutions they set themselves at the beginning of the year. For many students around the country, these resolutions are tied to how they do in school, their personal growth, or even trying something completely new. I asked some students at Apex High School what their New Year’s resolutions were earlier this year and if they were able to meet them. Here is what they had to say:
Apex junior, Makar Fikov’s resolution was to “get better grades.” While he didn’t say whether or not he met his goal, it’s clear he has been focused on improving his academic performance. Despite any challenges, his dedication to progress is what really matters.
Ar. K Kovadia set a specific target of reading 25 books in 2024, and she succeeded! It is always impressive to see someone hit their big goal like that! Her enthusiasm for reading clearly fueled her commitment to reaching her goal.
While some students had specific academic or personal growth goals, others, like Merlyn Paul, aimed for excellence. Her goal was to get all A’s in her class but she fell short by earning one B. However, her hardwork and determination still remains strong and that is just as important as the grade itself.
Lucy Nelson’s resolution was focused on her passion for her sport. Her goal was simple: “Become better at softball.” Whether it was about improving her skills or endurance, Lucy spent this whole year working on her skills in the field. Her resolution can remind us that goals can also be about growing outside of academics.
Isaac Bennett’s was the most ambitious of them all: “Take over the world.” He humorously admitted that he did not meet his goal, showing the fact that sometimes not all resolutions are meant to be taken literally, and sometimes the fun is in setting big, wild goals, even if they’re a bit over the top.
As we can see, all of these vary person to person, and not everyone achieves their goals. Resolutions remind us to become a better, successful person and to push ourselves. 2025 is approaching, so it is the perfect time to think ahead and set new goals that will guide us next year!
