All About the AHS Band
Being a part of the school band is more than just playing an instrument, having rehearsals, and performing. It’s a mix of fun, teamwork, friendship, and many amusing moments. The Apex High School Band and Marching Band deserves much more recognition for all the dedication they put in, especially during the fall season. With their busy schedules which includes showing up at football games, practices, and more, they certainly are hard workers. The Legacy interviewed a student to find out a bit more about the program.
Q: What is your name?
A: Nate Kim
Q: What instrument do you play and why did you choose it?
A: I play the trumpet and I chose it because in sixth grade I thought it would be easy since it only had three buttons.
Q: Are you a part of the marching band?
A: Yes, I really like it since it creates a close community. It is very different from a concert band since you spend a lot of time with people from different grades which allows you to create many different connections with people.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories from the band?
A: One time there was a football game that got canceled so we stayed inside the whole time and played a bunch of games together.
Q: What is your favorite song that you played in band?
A: A song that holds very fond memories is “Dragonslayer” from sixth grade, and then my most recent one is probably “Slava!” that we’re currently playing.
Q: What is the biggest difference between a middle school band and high school band?
A: Definitely the skill level and how devoted people are to it. In middle school, you’re still learning the basics, but in high school you can really get into some deep musical stuff, which can create some really nice moments in music.
