The New York Fashion Week, which was held from September 6th to September 13th of this year, showed off a big blend of cultures and nostalgia. The designs featured a lot of vibrant colors and unique materials that reflected on the 2024 year. The atmosphere was filled with a major energy as many fashion lovers gathered to watch a large range of brands such as Ralph Lauren, Coach, and Tommy Hilfiger.

Ralph Lauren first kicked off the event on September 5th with its American style starring the most American of fabrics: denim. Its collection featured many earthy tones with bold patterns using luxurious fabrics.  They treated their fabric in the most formal and elevated way; lining it with a light chiffon fabric and then embroidering it using sequins or beads.  The collection showed off a minimalistic and elegant look, strengthening Ralph Lauren’s role in the fashion industry. 

On the other hand, Coach took a brighter approach displaying many vibrant colors and accessories. Their lineup included a lot of statement pieces made of leather, denim and cotton accompanied with numerous accessories. Inspired by New York City, alluring charms were attached on their purses such as Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building figurines, yellow taxis, apples, pretzels and postcards. Their skill to mix in classic influences with a youthful energy really made them standout at the New York Fashion Week. 

Tommy Hilfiger switched it up with their casual and very comfortable designs. The models showed off their ‘New American Prep wardrobe’ by wearing casual styles like capri pants and oversized knits, and of course, their classic polos and varsity jackets. This collection was a big highlight of the Fashion Week as it displayed Tommy Hilfiger’s view on inclusivity by showing how even laid- back styles can make it to a runaway show. 

With many different opinions of New York Fashion Week styles, a few Apex High School students completed a survey. The survey asked what kind of runaway look they preferred, giving them a few pictures to choose from. A high percentage (91%) of them enjoyed Ralph Lauren’s elegant outfit with a smaller percentage (9%) of students preferring Tommy Hilfiger’s relaxed runaway look. 

The event also featured many celebrity appearances such as Madonna, Tom Hiddleston, Joey King, and Rihanna. Many celebrities attend to show off their own style, often setting their own trends afterwards. New York Fashion Week is not only an event to see stunning designs but also a great opportunity to meet new people who are also passionate about fashion, making it a perfect place for unforgettable moments. 

As the week came to an end, it was great to see how it brought together an outgoing community celebrating the fashion industry. This atmosphere of excitement makes each season of the event a memorable one.
