Spotlight: Metallic Banana Social Club
Are you looking to make new friends, or just something to do after school? One of the big things Apex High School offers is after school clubs. Every other Tuesday here at Apex High School, the first official social club meets in room 4105. The full title of the club is “The Metallic Banana Social Club”. It’s a space where students come together to hang out, talk, spend time with friends, and meet new people. Every meeting, there is a different activity to get people involved, and talking to each other. Let’s look deeper into what this club has to offer.
After attending this club for a while now, I can firmly say that no two meetings are going to be the same. Whether it’s a murder mystery to an art contest, there is always something new in room 4105. Some more events that take place in this club range from giant games of Capture the Flag to fake presidential campaigns to even a film contest as well. As I stated earlier, no two meetings are the same, so there are always going to be plenty of new opportunities when it comes to making friends and associating with new people. I wanted to learn more about the backstory behind this club, so I asked the founder, Stacy Mattson, some questions so we could get a better understanding.
What inspired you to establish this club here at Apex High?
“The main reason I started this club a few years ago was because the school did not have anything like it yet, and I thought it could be helpful for anyone who wanted or needed to make friends.”
I personally think this was a great idea because as Stacy stated, our school had nothing like this before and it could really be helpful to someone.
How has the club evolved since it first began, and what plans do you have for the future?
“Originally I started the club in 2022 as kind of a joke, and we didn’t really do much. But after the 2022-2023 school year we started to actually take this more seriously and started planning activities every week to try and get people to come, socialize, and have just a good time.”
I think this is very fascinating, because even though the club only recently started doing original activities at each meeting, a lot of people still attend and are invested with the club. This club has activities that keep the members invested and wanting to come back to see what the next meeting has in store.
What do you hope students take away from their time in the club?
“The main thing is that I just hope that people have a fun time and get to know each other while they’re here. We’re really just trying to have a positive impact on anyone that comes by.”
It is very important for everyone to be able to socialize and express themselves, so what this club is doing might really be helping. Students in Apex High School may need a safe space to be themselves and free of judgment which is what this club can offer for them. What this club offers is a deviation from usual social clubs because you can make a friend, participate in a unique activity, and be a genuine version of yourself.
Overall, this club looks like it is a really fun way to connect with new people, and truly express yourself. For anyone interested in attending, this club meets every other Tuesday in Mrs. Schmidt’s room, Room 4105. Their Remind code is @themetall, and they are available on Instagram @metallicbanana.ahs.

This might be the best article I’ve ever read! Definitely showing up to the club.
