What Genres of Video Games do Apex Students Enjoy

Playing video games is a common pastime for people of all ages worldwide. The students of Apex High School are also part of this giant community of gamers. I sent out a survey asking Apex students what their favorite genre of video games is.

The highest-ranked game on the list was rhythm games. Rhythm games are characterized by having to time some type of action along with music. These music-based games are commonly mixed into the action genre with things like Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. What makes these games so beloved by Apex students? They have overall mass appeal due to the fun music, excellent visual presentation, and a sense of accomplishment from competing at a level. Examples of these types of games include Beat Saber, Osu, and High-Fi Rush.

Next,  2nd highest on the poll was RPG, also known as role-playing games. RPG games are represented by you taking the role of a character in either grounded or outlandish stories. These games have a very loose definition of taking control of a character and being able to make them better. Why do Apex students also enjoy these games? They enjoy these games because of the story that you get dragged into by playing these games. A lot of different RPG games are known for their extremely immersive stories. Examples of RPG games include Final Fantasy, Persona, and Baldur’s Gate.

In third place, we have horror games. Horror games are characterized pretty much in the same way that horror movies are. They are made to scare and frighten you. Why do Apex students enjoy these games? I think it’s exciting to be put in a scenario of fear without any real danger.  Some of these games include Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Five Nights At Freddys.

In conclusion, students love to get hooked on a good video game. Each genre has its demographic all over Apex High. Whether it is because of the music, story, or gameplay, people will find what they enjoy, but it is always a good idea to branch out to different games.
