Tutoring Resources

It is easy to forget information over the summer, and some classes are extra challenging, so students may want a little bit of extra help. Apex High School and the surrounding community offer many opportunities and resources for tutoring. There are affordable and accessible ways to improve in almost any class or subject.

One of the free and easiest ways to receive tutoring is here at Apex High School. We have a tutoring program through the National Honors Society, advised by Ms. Summers, where students can help you with certain classes.

Apex High School senior and Academic Liaison for NHS, Avery Evans, explains the process. “NHS offers tutoring to Apex High School students, completely free of charge, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the school media center during both lunches. It functions office hours style, which essentially means that any student can walk in and receive help through the NHS tutoring program then and there, with no prior sign up or registration needed.” Different days have tutoring for different content. “Monday is for Math 1 and Math 2. Wednesday is for English and Spanish, and Friday is for Math 3, along with any math higher than 3, including Pre-Calc and Calculus.”

Another way to improve, while staying in our school, is going to the office hours provided by teachers. Most of them have certain dates and times that their classroom is open for help. The teachers at Apex High School are happy to help students who need a better understanding of the material in their classes. Some offer help before school, after school, or during lunch. For these times, you will need a pass from that teacher to be able to go to their room or office.

There are ways outside of school to receive help too. Around Apex and surrounding cities, there are organizations or companies that offer tutoring resources. Mathnasium is a popular place for students to go to receive some extra support in their math classes. Tutoring is offered by both other students and adults. Kumon is a similar resource that many students use. These companies usually cost more, however they are still a popular place for students to receive extra academic help.

There are other available and achievable ways to find a tutor. There is a website, Care, that finds the best tutors for your needs. With Care, you can select certain subjects that you would like tutoring in, online or in person tutoring, how soon you need a tutor, and how much you would like to pay. You can find specific tutors near you that can help within those requirements.

Recently, the Wake County Public Libraries have the option of free tutoring. If you are a Wake County Public Libraries card holder, online tutoring is available. Wake County residents are also able to get a library card for free. This program is then through Tutor.com where students can have a direct text-chat with a professional tutor. Practice tests and study guides are also available to study for tests and exams. This resource is available for many different subjects, and most popular subjects are also available in Spanish.

These are many different options for tutoring, ranging in prices, subjects, and locations. If you need a little bit more help in your classes, make sure to look at some of these resources!
