2024 Paris Olympics

The summer of 2024 made history as Paris agreed to host the Olympics. Team USA brought home the most medals, consisting of 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze, with a total of 126. We didn’t disappoint this year, so let’s dive into exactly what Team USA did to astonish both US citizens and people from around the world!

Amit Elor, Team USA, became the youngest wrestling champion, female or male, in history at the age of 20 years old! This proves that nobody can top how Team USA performed this year. It was truly magnificent! Thomas Wandschneider became the first Olympian to receive four golds in the category of men’s skeet. Swimmers Torri Huske and Regan Smith received five medals each.

While the Olympics are very popular, some sports are more watched than others. The top four most watched Olympic sports by the USA include gymnastics, swimming, track, and soccer. The most watched sport, however, by Apex High students, is gymnastics, with 41% of people claiming to have watched this sport the most. Track and field claims second spot with 30%,  and both soccer and swimming tie for third with 15% of students having watched it more.

Our success is what makes us proud to be US citizens. So next time the Olympics roll around, don’t be shy to show your American spirit. And who knows? Maybe you have what it takes to compete. You’ll never know if you don’t try. Maybe it’ll be you, in the near future, to bring glory to The United States of America!
