Welcome Coach Siegel

Coach Siegel is the new addition to the Apex High School community this school year. He will be leading the Apex Cougar Basketball team and is also one of our new social studies teachers! Let us find out more about one of the new additions to the Apex High School community!

What made you decide to come to Apex High School?

“There are two reasons, one deals with the coaching opportunities and job opening. Really it’s the community aspect, I’ve lived out in North Carolina for seven years now and Apex is one of the few places with a true sense of community with the school… that was a real driver for me”

How long have you been teaching and coaching?

“This would be my sixth year in Wake county and I have been teaching for approximately 11 years, but this is my 19th year coaching. I’ve been doing it since I was 20 years old.”

What are your expectations for Apex basketball this season?

“The guys have been doing a great job. They have really bought into everything we’ve asked them to do. From showing up on time, working hard in the weight room, the expectation is to get better from day one to February. We want to compete for championships here. We want to make a name for ourselves in the tradition that is Apex Basketball, so our expectations are to compete.”

What are your favorite parts about coaching?

“It’s the relationships outside of the classroom, so it’s able to instill life lessons in the players and really get to know 15-20 guys very closely. That’s the fun part for me.”

Is there any part of coaching that you don’t like?

“No, honestly no. It’s a lot at the high school level. Resources are limited sometimes in terms of staff. Everything coaching has to do now with social media and fundraising, weight room and on the court stuff.”

What’s your favorite thing to teach about in social studies?

“I love AP government. That’s my niche. I majored in history with a minor in political science and I’ve been fortunate enough to be around some political campaigns from both sides of the aisle. That’s what I really like to talk about. That’s my passion.”

It was a great experience to interview the new basketball coach. We are super excited to have Coach Siegel join the Apex High School community. We welcome him with open arms, and we hope he has a wonderful experience at Apex High School.
