Prom Committee Stress
On May 10, 2024, Apex High School’s prom took place at the Embassy Suites Hotel where it was a major success! There was a nice dance floor, tables of food, and a fortune-telling booth and photo booth. None of this would have been possible without the Prom Committee here at Apex. The organization and preparation needed before prom started months ago, and the members of the prom committee had been working hard leading up to the dance. There were a lot of things that needed to be done to set up and create such a spectacular event, which could cause a lot of stress on individuals on the prom committee.
One of the members of the prom committee, Kayla White, shares her experience with the Prom Committee as a whole. “Prom committee was a very interesting experience in my opinion. Planning a huge event that the whole school was going to attend alongside ten or so students seemed like a hard task, and I was certainly stressed. We met throughout the year and discussed new ideas and how we could set up, but being a junior, it was extremely hard to imagine how these ideas would look like since I’ve never been to prom. I had no idea what the venue looked like, I had no idea what the budget was or what items we usually used. So coming up with ideas was super tricky. The week of prom is where the action truly started. We had to spend our lunches handing out prom tickets, and then after school we’d make the goodie bags and gather all of the decorations. Setting up prom on the day of prom was extremely stressful at first, but then you got into a flow, and you just kept working. It was honestly fun, and I felt like an event planner. I feel like this is a great opportunity for those who have a strong school spirit and are looking to add some things to their resume.”
Another member, Abigail Verburgt, also shares her experiences being on the Prom Committee: “Prom committee overall was a success, and we set up prom on time with a good amount of props. Getting everything loaded up into the truck and the actual process of setting up was a little tedious, but it ended up all working out. Selling tickets at lunch could also be stressful, but in the end I think it was worth it because we were able to get a free ticket for prom for helping out.”
After all the hard work and time spent putting together everything for prom, which may have been very stressful at the moment, the Prom Committee’s dedication allowed them to throw a very successful and glamorous prom for the students at Apex.
