The Hunt for College Roommates

As seniors round out the last weeks of their high school careers, many are forward thinking about college approaching in the fall. After committing, what’s next? Figuring out the housing situation. No matter how you decide to spend your next four years, it seems to be a universal struggle. Senior Alex Shelton notes that he is “so excited.”

Thanks to the ever-present social media presence that so many students have, the hunt for a roommate has been taken into the hands of students themselves more often than it had been entrusted to the school. Many students have turned to college introduction pages on Instagram and apps (such as ZeeMee) to meet people before even setting foot on campus for the new school year.

The process is intimidating, and the feeling is confounded in almost everyone who has commented on the subject. Quinn Shifflett, a senior at Apex High School, expands on that. “It’s definitely nerve wracking trying to find new people and especially someone you’ll live with for a year.” Darcy Schueler adds “It makes me scared, so I’m  just waiting for people to come to me. Then I’m scared I will have to talk to them on a daily basis because I have a lot going on. I did meet someone maybe though, through a friend of a friend..”

The move to college is a stressful one, and finding a roommate is no exception. In fact, for many it has seemed to be proven as the most difficult part. For any rising college freshmen, we wish you luck in your journey, and make these next four years great!
