Artificial Intelligence – Will the Next Generation of Humans be Robots?
Technology has greatly advanced since the beginning of time. It goes back to humans using navigational tools for explorations, soon advancing to technology of the industrial revolution, and later creating the first working computer. This all led up to the most popular form of technology in our time: artificial intelligence. When you think of artificial intelligence, the idea of robots and computers might come to mind. But there’s way more to artificial intelligence than meets the eye. Understanding the relationship between artificial intelligence and human interaction can help one understand the progressive world we live in.
What is AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is technology that possesses human intelligence capabilities. It refers to the ability of machines to grasp and understand patterns, ideas, and actions, just like humans. AI performs tasks to improve efficiency and effectiveness in many industries. In this day and age, it’s all about speed. We want results and answers fast, and AI allows for our wants to be met.
Origins of AI
It all started in a workshop at Dartmouth College. Many scientists came together and created a workshop to help others understand the importance of AI. During this time, they came up with a big question: can machines achieve intelligence similar or close to that of humans? Soon after, a Special Interest Group in Information Theory was held at MIT. Researchers exchanged ideas regarding problem-solving, linguistics, and patterns. This marked the beginning of exploring how AI can help to better understand the human mind itself.
AI in Today’s World
AI is an exponentially growing technology that is being used in multiple fields today. It’s the new fascination many large corporations are having and trying to keep up with. According to the latest AI index, AI adoption among companies has increased by 47% when compared to the data taken in 2018. From healthcare to finance, or business to psychology, AI plays a crucial role in the advancement of careers. Artificial intelligence can solve problems at a faster and more cost-efficient rate than humans, changing the business world as we know it.
The capabilities of AI have been shown to be endless, especially in recent years. With the rise of artificial intelligence in homes, education, and the workplace, we might just see ourselves being replaced by this technology in the near future.
