How are Students Going to Survive the Fourth Quarter?
The fourth quarter is coming upon us, and seniors are getting ready to graduate. Many students wait all year for summer, and as soon as Spring Break ends, that is about the moment when students start slacking off in school and on their assignments. If you are one that has this mindset, you are not alone.
Here is a student’s view on her final quarter of high school. Nicole LiMato, a senior at Apex High School, explains that she has started caring less about her grades and classes because her heart is set on the college she is attending. Nicole gives advice to the incoming freshmen, or current students, and that advice is to not give up now. It only gets harder as each year passes. She explains that she prefers her previous semester specifically because she had relatively easy classes, which she thought senior year was all about. She is currently struggling with her current classes, which is causing her to slack off during her final semester. Although she has the common “senioritis” mindset and struggles like many other students do, she is motivated to get through the rest of the school year, specifically because the school policy states that you must pass your classes with a B or higher to be excused from final exams. Her plan on surviving the final quarter is to work as hard as she can to assure she doesn’t have to take exams that she can avoid.
Struggling with classes is something that everybody experiences, regardless of the grade you are in. Whether you are in advanced classes or not, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. For example, a current sophomore, Lasya Puppal says she struggles with her AP classes although recommends AP Government and AP Human Geography for sophomores because it’s an easy class when you are on top of your work. Her peers and classmates, Diva Jain and Julia Capalini, give advice on their study habits and recommend to incoming freshmen or sophomores to study hard and stay motivated because getting behind is only going to make it worse. They are planning on surviving the fourth quarter by working hard and being proactive and productive.
Connor Worthington and Sidd Sirpee, current juniors at Apex High School, share their opinions, give advice to the current or incoming freshman, and talk about how the year is going. Connor emphatically explains that you should use your freshman and sophomore year to your advantage, assure that your grades are steady, and make sure you’re comfortable with your GPA. “Actually try and use your freshman year as an easier year and get into a habit of good grades.” Sidd agrees with this statement and gives more advice for the incoming high schoolers. “You have to study hard and when you get at least halfway through sophomore year, everything will become less forgiving, and you’ll have to worry more about things that you could have avoided earlier on in high school. You don’t want to have regrets later.” They are both planning on surviving the fourth quarter by enhancing their study habits and preparing for exams and their final year in high school.
Overall, these students share their various opinions and plans for the final quarter of the year and give advice for the upcoming one. If you are struggling, you are not alone. Students’ views on their school year should motivate you to not give up and to find new ways to get through your high school years. Don’t put in less effort when you have the ability to grow. PEAKS UP!
