A Review of the “Shatter Me” Series
A few weeks ago, a friend recommended to me the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. At first I just tossed it in my ever-growing To Be Read (TBR) pile, and I thought I would forget about it. I remember seeing countless recommendations for it on BookTok, but I had never given it a chance because people have had the tendency to exaggerate how good a book is. However, this time I wanted to see for myself whether it was worth the excitement. After finishing the entire series, I can absolutely say it is.
It is the story of a seventeen-year-old-girl, Juliette, trying to figure out the power she possesses: a deadly touch. She has never known the extent of her powers, what they mean, or why she has them. Throughout the six books, she not only gets answers to her questions but also grows into her powers and harnesses them to do excellent things. Her character development is extraordinary, and readers follow along as she finds her strength. At first, I found her character annoying because of how emotional she was, but after learning everything she went through, I could not help but feel immense sympathy towards her. One of Tahereh Mafi’s many talents is being able to write complex characters and develop their stories in such a compelling way. Along with Juliette, we are introduced to plenty of other lovable characters that we can’t help but get attached to. The plot takes readers along for a riveting series of events and had me hooked from the start. After the first book, I could not put the series down. Tahereh Mafi has a very interesting writing style that makes the books fun to read.
Overall, I am so glad I decided to give Shatter Me a try. I definitely recommend the series to anyone who likes young adult literature with plenty of drama, excitement, romance, and intrigue. It is such an easy read and is perfect for winding down but also if you need some excitement in your life. It will take you on a wild ride with many unexpected twists that are sure to keep you wanting more. Overall, Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me is an excellent story.
