Each AP course had a representative teacher available to answer questions and provide more information about the AP course they teach. Read on to learn more about AP classes offered here at Apex and the benefits of taking them.
Apex High School offers more than twenty AP courses to students in topics ranging from English, to science, to world languages, and a variety of other things. There really is an AP course for everyone, and many students will be able to find more than one that they enjoy.
Two of the most popular AP courses are AP English Language and Composition, commonly known as AP Lang, and AP US History, commonly known as APUSH. Many juniors take these classes in order to get college credit and impress colleges by having such rigorous courses on their high school transcript. There is the option to take both of these classes as a year long class with an A/B day schedule. This is popular since it allows students to learn the content over an entire school year as opposed to a single semester.
Apart from core-subject AP classes, there are many AP electives available. Apex High School offers four AP World Language classes: Spanish Language and Culture, Spanish Literature and Culture, French Language and Culture, and German Language and Culture.
Advanced classes in art can also be found, with both 2-D and 3-D Art, as well as Art History offered. AP Psychology is also a wonderful choice for those interested in studying psychology in college.
Taking AP courses offers myriad benefits, the most notable of which is the opportunity to get college credit depending on your scores on the AP Exam. It also shows highly upon a person if they take AP classes during their junior year in order to have a strong transcript before applying to colleges. AP courses provide an opportunity to prepare for college classes and be in an environment where everyone is dedicated to learning. Though there are many positives, there can also be a few downsides to taking AP classes. Many students are aware of the heavy workloads associated with AP classes. It is also true that gaining college credit is contingent upon getting a 3 or higher on the AP Exam, which can be challenging. Regardless, taking AP courses is worth it in the long run.
As students register for classes, they would do well to consider all of their options and make an informed decision. Remember that class registration must be submitted on PowerSchool by March 20th, 2024, and that you do not have to sign up immediately in order to get the classes you want; it is not first come, first served. Rising juniors and seniors can also investigate dual enrollment classes at Wake Tech as they prepare for the next school year. Good luck with class registration!
