Apex Women’s Soccer Team
After a successful 2023 spring season for both women’s JV and Varsity soccer, tryouts are right around the corner once again, for the 2024 season starting on February 14 through the 16th at Apex High School.
An important reminder for everyone hoping to try out is to complete and submit the necessary Dragonfly paperwork in order to be eligible. At tryouts, make sure to bring the necessary equipment such as cleats / sneakers, water, shin guards, and a positive attitude.
To prepare for tryouts, it is important to make sure everyone is in good physical condition. Make sure to find time to run, workout, and stay in shape during the off season in the winter. By running and staying in shape, it will help prepare you for the Man-U, which takes place during tryouts and is a very strenuous running drill.
Getting some ball work in is also very important as it helps you retain your technical abilities and improve your ball control to help prepare for tryouts. Some useful drills to help with this are toe touches, bells, soul drags, v-cut, dribbling through cones, and basic juggling; all essential exercises and drills to work on mastering prior to tryouts.
This season, the Cougars will be playing against various non-conference teams to start the season off as well as a trip to Wilson to participate in The Brittany, which is multiple games in the form of a tournament. After these beginning games, the team will begin conference games against various schools nearby, including Apex Friendship, Green Hope, Holly Springs, Middle Creek, Green Level, Cary, and Panther Creek. Once again, let’s beat these teams and have another fun and successful season, ladies! Light it Green!
