Apex High school Stunt Team
If you’re interested in joining the stunt team or just want to learn more about it, here’s everything you need to know. Stunt is a sport that involves various skills, from cheerleading. I spoke with the coach of the Apex High School stunt and cheer team to get a better understanding of what stunt is all about. According to her, “Stunt is basically cheerleading without the crowd-leading aspect. It is a head-to-head sport that consists of four quarters. Athletes on the team can learn up to sixteen different routines. The sport is very technical and requires precision and attention to detail.”
If you are interested in trying something new and different and like the competitive aspect of sports, then I recommend trying out for stunt. Stunt has so much to offer and looks great on college applications! Coach Hartley explains why she thinks students at Apex should try out for the stunt team. “I would encourage ladies to try out for Stunt because it’s an upcoming competitive female sport, and not every school has a team. Wake County is the only county in North Carolina that has stunt! It is a competitive and exciting sport that is truly one of a kind, and it allows our athletes to stand out to colleges and have more opportunity for college athletic participation.”
Stunt can be an excellent opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, and stay active. I did interviews with athletes at our school who have been on the stunt team before, and they explained some things that stunt has helped them learn. Sophia Tate says, “Being on the stunt team has helped me become a better leader and a team player. It has also helped me be able to communicate more efficiently with others. Because we practice over half the week, I have become more active and physical.”
Stunt can also be a way to make good memories through competitions, making friends, and so much more. I interviewed some more people on the team, but this time, I asked them what their favorite memory from being on the team was. Natalie Andrew said, “My favorite memory from being on the team was when we competed against Green Level in the semi-finals. This was so much fun because everyone was very into the game, competitive, and energetic! This memory gave me a great bonding experience and realizing my love for the sport.”
After reading about people’s experiences with stunt and learning more about it, I encourage you to take this opportunity to try out something new. Trying a new sport or joining a new team can be intimidating at first, but it can bring you numerous new experiences in the long run. So why not take the chance? Even if stunt doesn’t interest you, you should still try something new, whether it’s making new friends, being part of a new team, or pursuing other hobbies.
