Apex High School’s Winter Formal
Tomorrow night, February 10th, Apex High School will hold its winter formal dance. The dance is run by our own InterClub Council (ICC), and all decorations and activities are made and donated by students. The dance’s theme is “Northern Lights” as selected by the student body from a list of themes.
The dance is free for students who are passing three out of four classes and costs $10 for any student who does not meet the requirement but wishes to go as well. Non-Apex students are not permitted to go to this dance. All students, regardless of if they are paying or not, must get their tickets through GoFan.
Liam Kiley, senior and Apex High’s ICC president, detailed how the dance was put together and handled by students. “The original idea of a dance came from admin, but they decided to put the ICC in charge of planning it. We had a lot of freedom over when to hold it and what the theme was, so it was originally going to be a Valentine’s Day dance. We ended up changing that since we realized that single people might be discouraged from going, so it became the winter formal to be more inclusive.”
When asked about how much of the dance the student body really handled when planning, Liam answered, “We had a lot more power over the dance than I expected to have. Basically everything but the grade requirement and the ban on non-Apex students attending was up to us.”
Clubs and their respective board members are responsible for many of the dance’s activities and decorations. Crafting for Change most recently had a club meeting in collaboration with ICC just last week to make decorations for the dance.
There has been lots of hard work put into the dance by both students and staff. We hope to see you there!
