October’s New Music Releases
October is a month filled with halloween movies and pumpkin spice lattes, but it’s also been a popular month, this year, for new music releases from popular artists. New releases from Rolling Stones, Ringo Starr, Dokken and Trevor Rabin highlight this month’s ballot of rock releases, while artists like Taylor Swift, Drake, Travis Scott, and Bade Bunny will give pop and hip-hop fans something to look forward to during this spooky season. Boygenius and Searows are both releasing new music, and with their indie genre of music, it will fit in perfectly with the fall feel of October.
Fans of the worldly popular band from the 60’s and 70’s, Rolling Stones, have been long awaiting the release of their first new album, Hackney Diamonds, since 2016’s Blue & Lonesome. It also marks the first album since longtime and loved drummer, Charlie Watts, died in 2021 and their first collection of new original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.
Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour have been taking the world by storm, and with her first edition of the pop blockbuster 1989 being her second-biggest album in America, in terms of units shifted, the re-release is sure to break new records for this multi-award winning artist. Another pop artist brings some R&B Soul to the new releases of October. Lawrence, a brother and sister band who opened for the Jonas Brothers on the 2023 “The Tour,” released a single titled “23.”
There have also been some throwbacks to the past with a few new releases from artists of the 60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Dolly Parton released a cover of “Wrecking Ball,” featuring Miley Cyrus, and there will be a honoring of the 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s In Utero.
While there are many new releases coming out this month, it’s clear that a few artists are a bit more anticipated than others. To get an idea of which artists are favored at Apex, I asked a few students who they are looking forward to releasing new music the most. Here’s what they said:
Caroline Thompson (Senior): Taylor Swift
Sophia Taylor (Senior): Taylor Swift
Shashank Sutty (Senior): Drake
Lindsay Taylor (Senior): Taylor Swift
Sami Tiernan (Senior): Searows
Leo Svensson (Senior): Drake
Abby Jerchower (Senior): Boygenius
Parker Whitley (Junior): Travis Scott
Rose Gaddy (Junior): Drake
Gracie Shrut (Senior): Taylor Swift
Adam Ferguson (Teacher): The National

It’s clear that Drake and Taylor Swift are the most favored through Apex High’s student body, but if pop and hip-hop aren’t your thing, there are new releases from artists of every music genre. From indie folk to rap, if you are trying to find some new music to add to your current collection, this is the month for you.
