Now that we are in October, there are a lot of exciting events to be looking forward to. The weather is beginning to cool, the holiday season is coming up in just a couple months, and pretty soon we will be wrapping up our first quarter here at Apex. For some artists, however, a very special tradition this October has already begun.

Inktober is a month-long challenge for artists. During the challenge, each day in October is assigned a different word. The artist will use that word as inspiration for their next piece and then post that piece on social media. Although the challenge originally intended for people to be interpreting the prompts through ink and paper, people now participate in Inktober through a variety of different mediums, such as digital and painting.

Inktober has grown immensely in popularity among artists since its creation in 2009. With 27.1 million posts under the “Inktober ” hashtag, it is one of the biggest annual challenges for visual artists. In a statement from its creator, Jake Parker, it is described as “a way for artists to get better at drawing, find other cool artists, and grow an audience for their work.”
