Welcoming Mrs. Inscoe to the Apex Family
As the 2023-2024 school year starts up at Apex High School, there are many familiar faces in the halls, classrooms, and on the field, but there are many new faces too. This year, we are welcoming over twenty new teachers to the Apex family, including a new Computer Science teacher, Mrs. Inscoe. To get a better idea of who Mrs. Inscoe is as a teacher and a person, I asked her a few questions about herself:
Q: What classes do you teach?
A: “I teach Computer programming classes, including academic and AP courses.”
Q: Where are you from?
A: “Originally I am from Clayton and I went to school in Greenville, at East Carolina, where I got my Masters Degree in Business Education.”
Q: What did you do before coming to Apex?
A: “I’ve taught at Fike High School in Wilson County for 19 years, but this is my first year in Wake County.”
Q: What made you want to be a teacher?
A: “Well I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was little, then in High School, I really enjoyed my Business Education classes, so that heavily influenced me to go to East Carolina to get a masters there. In college, my advisor helped me go in that direction of teaching.”
Q: How would you describe your classes and working style to students who will, or are interested, in taking your classes?
A: “I think that the subject matter is challenging, and can be difficult, but I do like to break things down and try to simplify it, so that it ends up making sense. I feel that the courses are educational, that they are more than just programming. Some students may realize that they don’t like programming in my class, but they continue to learn skills that will be useful in other fields and under employers. Some skills like communicating, troubleshooting, figuring out how things work and fit together. I have had students come up to me and say that they don’t like my class, but that’s okay because they are still learning useful skills and they figure it out.”
Q: What is something interesting about yourself that you would like to share with Apex?
A: “I have a dog, a beagle, named Tito. He’s not named after the alcohol, he is named after a little dog I met and just thought it was the best name. I’ve lived in Wilson and moved to Clayton. I just got married in May, which is part of why I transferred to Apex.”
Q: How do you like working at Apex so far?
A: “I was sad to leave my other school, but I really like working at Apex. The administration has been very welcoming and helpful. I’ve been a little overwhelmed, but that’s how it always is at the start of the school year, so that will calm down.”
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: “I’m always learning about my subject matter, reading, studying. I also love music and like to go to concerts. I like to listen to smaller artists that aren’t quite known yet, but I like older types of music.”
Q: What advice would you give students?
A: “While the course material can be challenging, just try your best and if you use only a little bit of time each day to study and learn, you can succeed.”
We are so excited to welcome Mrs. Inscoe as well as all the other new teachers to Apex this year and can’t wait to see what this year has to offer. If you see her, or any other new face, be sure to offer them a smile and a warm welcome!
