Meet Ms. Willett!
Around here at Apex High School, we have numerous new teachers this school year. One of our new English teacher is Ms. Willett. She is extremely happy to instruct at Apex and appreciates it here. Continue reading to learn more about Ms. Willett, our brand-new English teacher.
What is your name? “Kristen Willett”
Where are you from? “ I grew up in Cary and went to Cary High School! I went to Wake Tech for a bit.”
What sorts of hobbies do you do in your free time? “I collect video games with my husband and love reading Avatar Airbender.”
What are your favorite movies? “I love the Studio Ghibli films!”
What did you do before coming to Apex? “I was a teacher last semester at Cary High School, which was so cool since I also went there. It was definitely a full circle experience. I also was a substitute teacher at Panther Creek a year ago and have been a manager at Spirit Halloween.”
Why did you want to become a teacher? “I always favored English, so to teach it to students made me love it even more. If I wasn’t a teacher, I feel like I would be a radiology technician.”
What do you think about Apex so far? “I think it’s a very friendly school, and I love that my classroom is right near the library! The only thing I am waiting for is that I have not gotten my [WCPSS] badge yet.”
What are some of your pet peeves? “I hate when students think I don’t notice they are hiding their cell phone under the table.”
How would you describe yourself as a student? “I was very quiet, and I kept to myself, but when I had an English period, I enjoyed it very much!
Have there been any achievements of yours you would like to share? “I completed the Mongo volume collection book series, and my kitten was sick but thankfully recovered!”
What would you say your favorite moment as a teacher has been? “Hearing that my students say this is their favorite class!”
Is there anyone who has specifically inspired you? If so, how? “My husband has been a great support in my life, and I feel we both have inspired each other. We have given each other something to look forward to and/or work towards.”
If you weren’t teaching what do you think you would be doing? “I honestly feel like I would be continuing my job as an assistant manager at Spirit Halloween.”
Lastly…
Is there any advice you can share or others moving forward? “I would definitely say don’t start assignments the night before. You should not wait till the last minute to complete things because it will just cause more stress!”
Thank you again, Ms. Willett! I appreciate you taking the time to take part in this interview, and we are looking forward to you being a part of Apex High School.
