Introducing Mrs. Pflaumer
What did you do before coming to Apex? “I’ve been teaching- Well, I’ve been teaching in the United States for twenty-one years. My first job was in Minneapolis’s public schools and St. Louis Park’s public schools, and then I moved to Houston, Texas. I taught there for thirteen years; until I moved again because of family.”
What is your favorite movie/book? “My favorite book, if it is a novel, Wuthering Heights, and also all the books that helped me grow as a person- I like those books. Do Over is one of the latest books I’ve read, and it’s very good.”
What are your Hobbies? “Knitting, sewing, cooking.”
What advice would you give students? “My advice would be to enjoy school. To enjoy every class. To make the most of every class; because over the years you will remember those classes; and the material and the relationships you build in a class; maybe you will never see that material again in the same way. So it will be part of your knowledge. I believe knowledge is what goes with you everywhere, and so, whatever you take from a class, if you do it well and build your building blocks every day, it’s something that will remain in your knowledge tools forever,” said Mrs. Pflaumer; “We don’t realize, but every day we build for our lives, and that goes with you everywhere.”
What were you like as a student? “Well, as a student, I was hardworking. Maybe- maybe, sometimes I would struggle with classes like mathematics; because I think I was more scared than anything. And maybe, because I didn’t have the right help to understand it, and one of the things I realized later in life is that there was no connection to realize when they taught me mathematics. For example, when you did Pythagoras, that you say ‘let’s go under a stair and see the pending,’ you know. And say, this is real life; study the theorem, you know. It’s like connecting mathematics to real life. I never had that.”
Why did you choose your subject area? “Spanish? Well, I chose languages. I also taught English, ESL, in different classes, so I taught literature in English, literature in Spanish. Many years in Argentina. And I chose it because I love communication. I love languages.”
We are all very excited to have Mrs. Pflaumer as a new teacher in Apex High School and hope she has the best experience in this community!
