Meet Ms. Albright

This year at Apex High School, there are quite a lot of new teachers. I had the lucky opportunity to interview our new special education teacher, Ms. Albright. Here is some information I got about her.

First I got the basics. She is married and has two wonderful children. She was originally born in Larinberg, NC but grew up in High Point, NC. Ms. Albright has her BA in Special Education and graduated from High Point University.

What did you do before coming to Apex?

“I was an ID Severe teacher at Reedy Creek Magnet Middle School, and I taught there for ten years.”

Why did you become a teacher?

“I wanted to work with the population and kids with special needs and wanted to do that without having to go to school forever, and this was the best way I knew how.”

What other jobs did you have before teaching?

“I worked with kids with disabilities in Arc of High Point; then I worked as a CAP worker and worked individually with special education students all through college.”

Why did you choose your subject area?

“When I was nine  or ten years old, I saw someone with special needs, and later on in life I did research about it and realized that’s what I wanted to do”

What are your thoughts on Apex so far? Likes, Dislikes, etc.

“It’s definitely bigger, and it’s nice; all the teachers have been super supportive, and the students seem very hard-working.”

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

“I really enjoy doing Jazzercise, going on walks, and traveling to the mountains or wherever I can see.”

Have you received any awards?

“I received an award for Coach of the Year in Special Olympics;  I also received one for teacher at the year for the Arc of High Point.”

What were you like as a student?

“I struggled in academics until college when I started studying what I was interested in, and then I received Straight A’s, which was a big accomplishment for me.”

What advice would you give students?

“Whatever dream it is that you have, do it. Now.”

If you weren’t teaching what do you think you would be doing?

“I would probably be a stay-at-home mom.”

Who is or has been an inspiration to you?

“Ms. Kindelberger at Reedy Creek was a big inspiration to me. She was a great mentor, and she didn’t have to be. She was open-minded and had big ideas, and I aspire to be that.”

What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?

“Definitely the place we did at Reedy Creek.  I can’t wait to be a part of them this year at Apex.”

I had such a great time getting to know her and welcoming her to Apex High School.
