End of the year review
The academic year draws to a close, marking the end of a chapter in the lives of students. With mixed emotions ranging from excitement to nostalgia, students bid farewell to their Apex High teachers and friends, looking back on the challenges faced and the triumphs achieved throughout the year. Reflecting on the journey, two students from different grade levels shared their thoughts on the past school year and their hopes for the future.
Mason Smith, a senior, expressed a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the experiences he had during his final year. “This year was unlike any other. I faced unique experiences, such as adapting to life after high school. But we have finished public school, and I’m proud of it,” he said.
When asked about his most memorable moments, Mason recalled memories made with friends throughout school. “Although we all had our ups and downs we were able to come together. After COVID happened and missing our freshman year, I think we were all excited about coming back. Joining several teams and building friendships with the people around me has greatly improved my experience during this time.”
Looking ahead to the future, Mason expressed a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. “I’m excited to start the next chapter of my life, but I’ll miss the familiarity and the bonds I formed with my teachers and friends. I hope that college will provide new opportunities for growth and friendships,” he said, a note of optimism in his voice.
Andrew Grinnell, a sophomore, shared a similar sentiment, acknowledging the fun time he experienced during the past year. “It was a fun year and I’m glad about that. Junior year is next, and I’m not sure I’m going to enjoy it all too much,” he said.
Andrew highlighted the moments that stood out for him, including JV basketball games and frisbee competitions. “They were fun times. Hopefully, I’ll make the varsity team next year and grow the frisbee team at Apex.”
As the academic year concluded, Andrew expressed a mix of excitement and nervousness about the upcoming summer break. “I can’t wait to have more free time, but I also know that junior year is going to be rough. I hope the next school year won’t be as bad as I think it is.”
As students at Apex begin to bid farewell to the school year, their experiences and sentiments reflect the resilience and adaptability during these memorable times. They look forward to bright futures, reminiscing on the lessons learned and the friendships formed throughout their academic journey.
