Meet Mr. Bellion!
Mr. Bellion is an orchestra and guitar ensemble teacher here at Apex.
Q: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
A: Well, my name is John Bellion. I’ve been living in North Carolina for a while, but I moved here from New Hampshire in 2001.
Q: What did you do before you came to Apex?
A: Before I came to Apex, I had been working at a middle school and taught band there for most of my career.
Q: Who or what has been an inspiration to you throughout your life?
A: Honestly there have been a lot of different people over the years, but my past music teachers have definitely had a pretty big impact on my life. I also find all of the musicians over time that have overcome adversity to be pretty inspiring.
Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
A: Well I obviously love playing guitar, but I also really enjoy cooking during any spare time that I have (ESPECIALLY Italian food)!
Q: What’s your all-time favorite song?
A: That’s truly an impossible question for me. There are so many different songs out there and having to pick just one is too hard to even comprehend. I’d say it really just depends on my mood..
Q: If you weren’t teaching, and you could have any job in the world, what would you be doing?
A: Honestly, music is my life, so I would probably just be playing an instrument.
Q: What’s your favorite type of food?
A: I really love just about everything, but I would probably have to say Italian. However, Chinese food is really good too.
Q: What kind of advice would you give to students that want to pursue a career in music?
A: I mean I would definitely tell them to practice a lot because in music school, you’ll be playing a good eight hours every day. But I would also tell them to HAVE FUN. You should take it seriously to a certain extent but not too seriously because in the end it’s really just about how much fun you’re having.
Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve?
A: Well one of the things that students do a lot that bothers me would have to be when they ask a question but then don’t listen to the answer.
Q: And lastly, strawberries or bananas?
A: That’s a tough one. I mean I like both of them when they’re mixed inside of things, but by themselves I would have to say… bananas.
